Palletizing Systems: Receiving The Most From Your Investment

By Brady Vander Woude

In these economically uncertain times, everything you invest in to make your business more profitable should be very thoughtfully weighed in order to ensure a positive financial outcome for your business.

Investment in automated equipment for example, if carefully researched, can yield positive returns for your business in a short time period..

If you're in the business of producing items or commodities and have to ship those items or commodities in boxes, crates or other stackable product units, then making an investment in a palletizing system is something you will want to consider.

However , when searching for a palletizing solution, please remember that not every palletizer manufacturer will have a good fit for your particular wants and goals.

Three Critical Things To Consider When Selecting A Palletizing Solution

1. Cost versus Features:If you're on a smaller budget, you'd be advised to look for a palletizer that will meet your core needs. Some palletizers have "bells and whistles" that look like engaging options on the surface, but they'll offer little in the way of maximizing your investment, and they can also be lacking core features that will enhance your productivity. An example would be an entry level palletizer with hands free empty pallet dispensing (which places the empty pallet into the palletizer after the full pallet ejects).Though this is a nice feature, it costs a lot of money and other than saving some marginal labor resources, it may offer little to helping your bottom line (especially if you have other more crucial core needs). For example, if you have multiple box types, giving up a convenience feature to instead have a more flexible palletizing solution that will easily adjust to your different box sizes, is likely something you'll want to consider.
2. Check Manufacturer References:This is sort of a no-brainer, yet many of us tend to overlook this extremely important step. It is strongly recommended that you ask the supplier attempting to sell you a solution for at least three of their existing customer references. These references should be for customers that are utilizing a similar palletizer to what you are considering. Some subjects you are advised to discuss with these references include the following:Equipment reliability and longevity, production capacity and adaptability, stacking precision, ease of operation, post-sales support, and ongoing maintenance.
3. Consider both Domestic and Global Solutions:There are some industry tested palletizer palletizer suppliers in the United States, but do not ignore the solution suppliers from Europe and Asia also. For instance, there are some European palletizer solutions providers that use cutting edge modular manufacturing methods to supply top-end solutions, but at prices that are significantly less than what you may find in the U.S. Market.

To Conclude

If you are in a business where stacking items on pallets is a core step in your process, you will definitely want to research what palletizers cost and how a properly specified solution (pprimarily based on your specific needs and goals) may dramatically enhance your bottom line.
