The first type is the ones that are supported by the state. If you want to study at an institution in your state, you will have really good chance. It will be harder for you to attend an establishment in a state where you are not a resident, the state schools offer very few open positions for people from out of state.
The other types of schools are private institutions. There you will be able to apply, regardless of your residency. Of course, the semester taxes are more expensive there.
While in the collage, you need to get reference letters from your professors, to get into a better dental school. It will be good if you try and have some kind of relation with them. The best way to do that is by asking many questions from the very beginning.
