Find Out Why IP Telephony Is Making Our Communications Evolve

By Janet Grantham

Many companies, large and small, have begun to use IP Telephony to perform their communication necessities. It is a very flexible and cost effective method of communicating which found its way to the individual user's home as well.

This way of communicating is similar to using a plain telephone system, but instead of using the closed circuit phone line, it uses your internet connection to place the call. It sends your voice in small packets of data to your recipient, by using the similar protocol that a normal internet protocol uses.

This explains the major interest as bigger companies and most households already have a internet connection. It also explains it's constant development, in order to improve the quality of the technology. A lot of cable TV companies are providing a telephone service that uses this technology, by using the internet service that they already provide.

The three main ways to utilize this service differs in the equipment used. The first method involves a converter, which turns your analog signal into digital that allows you to connect your normal telephone to your computer. This allows you to use the computer's connection to the internet to place a call.

The second way to perform this is by using a computer to computer connection, thus not needing a telephone. You only need a specific software and a microphone so that you can transmit your voice. The third is the most common and widely used method. You use a specific type of telephone that has a different port, instead of the traditional phone line port, that allows it to connect to your internet provider's device. This makes it easier to use, because you just use it as a normal telephone so no computer is needed.

With its many uses, either business or personal, IP Telephony is a reality that has settled in on our communication standards and it's there to make your life easier.
