Terrific Testimonials - How to Get Them

By Violet Shaffer

Testimonials are a great way to convince your prospects that your product or service is really worth it, but letting your existing customers speak for you. There is a point, however, where testimonials will not help you much, and that is when the copy or your product offering is very poor. There are a number of effective methods available that work very well with your customers and testimonials.

Feedback is valuable for any business, and so that is the basic approach you will want to take with your customers. Don't hesitate when it comes to asking for feedback because most of the time it's like - "you don't ask, you don't get". The best way to ask for a testimonial is to note down any positive feedback that you see from your customers and later on ask their permission about using it as a testimonial on your website. Most of the time customers will be more than happy to give their consent, just make sure you get it clear as to if you can publish their name or even website along with the testimonial to make it more effective. We will say again, because it is really important, that every testimonial you publish must have proof of permission from the customer.

Always keep things positive on your sites, and we are primarily speaking about the competition and talking trash, etc. There is a difference when a legal line has been crossed as it pertains to the words of others, but otherwise try to learn from any thoughts or feelings written about your business by others. Ultimately, you cannot really control what anyone will say in a testimonial unless you ask them to write something, but that is really not in the spirit of an honest testimonial.

It is only natural for new visitors to your site to be able to identify with those who are represented in your testimonials. There is not much you can do about who gives you a testimonial, so just make sure you present them properly. Always work to give your readers the best testimonials you can offer, and the most effective are video followed by text, and always try to secure a photo for each testimonial.

You will find that securing any kind of testimonial is a game of percentages because you never know who will agree to let you use something.
