Email Marketing Tips for The Novice Marketer

By Amparo Dillon

There is really no shortage of great information on effective email marketing, but still there are many experienced marketers who drop the ball in this area. If you want to succeed with it, then it's imperative you prepare well and that includes learning how to do it right. You can begin your email marketing education right here, and we'll talk about a few helpful suggestions you can use as you prepare for your first campaign.

We still continue to receive emails from some online marketers, and their emails do not offer a way to unsubscribe. They think that including a un-subscription link will bring down the subscribers number. But the fact is, if your emails are really that worth it, very few would want to get off from your list. Also, it is mandated by law, in the US, that an unsubscribe link be offered in each email. There also cannot be any funny games about it, when they want to unsubscribe they should immediately been taken to a page to do so. One approach used by many is the double optin requirement, and the line of thinking is that only those who truly want to be on your list will subscribe.

Click through rates are also a very important part of successful email marketing. Many marketing emails today are so full of banners, text and graphics that it's hard for the reader to focus on your links. This reduces the number of click throughs, website traffic and conversions. The best technique to get people to notice your link is to use the color blue and make it bold. This tactic of underlining your links and using blue can increase your click throughs. This makes it stand out to readers as a link, and you will get more website visitors this way.

You'll always want to send your emails at the right times so that people begin to look forward to getting your emails. You will want to make sure, then, that you always send out your emails at the same times all the time. For example, let's say you send it every Tuesday at 1 pm, stick to this timing. People will begin to look forward to your emails because you'll choose the same day and time every time you choose to communicate with them. What that means is that they will look forward to hearing what you have to say, and that means they're more like to buy what you're selling. Other than that, just be very consistent and send your emails as frequently as needed, while keeping to the certain days.

Especially if all of this is new to you, just keep learning from reputable sources and you'll be fine. Even things develop and change, like email marketing, so it's really important to keep your knowledge current.
