How to Get Return Visitors to Your Blog and Make it Sticky

By Shane Berry

It is very easy to want to create a blog on, well, any topic really. The Internet has tons of free blogging sites that you can use to do it. Of course, if you can't convince drive by traffic to become regular and loyal readers it won't matter how amazing your writing is or how beautifully you've designed your site. If you want your blog to be sticky you need to work on every aspect of it. There are so many factors that make people come back to your blog but trying to take care of all of them isn't all that possible. This is the reason you need to start building your stick rate slowly, so that you can grow at the same rate your blog is growing.

It is important to do everything you can think of to make sure that your readers have real reasons to read you again. A good way to do this is to add a "subscribe to comments" feature to your blog. Now, this might not seem like a big thing, but it allows your readers to actually subscribe to the comments under a post. If, for example, a post is getting lots of interesting comments people are going to want to follow that conversation and will appreciate the opportunity to subscribe to it. This will help them get a notification whenever a new comment is posted, and they'll obviously keep coming back. It might seem too simple but it gives you great results.

Work to build a kind of anticipation on your blog so that your readers always want to read more. For example, if you notice that your readers really enjoy a post or series of posts that you have written and are interacting with you and each other about them, you can rest assured that they will continue looking for the same type of content from you in the future. This is why you need to aim for building a strong momentum for your content so that your other readers want to keep reading it. This helps raise your number of subscribers and increases your stick rate as well.

Site visitors almost always want to learn about a blogger and will visit the "About Me" page to do so. Most readers are curious about the person who runs the blog they are reading and what they might be aspiring to do with their sites. So creating an engaging 'About Me' page is really important if you want to grow your blog's sticky rate by getting more and more people to subscribe. The goal is to give your readers a basic idea about you so don't worry about writing a long page or an especially in depth page. Obviously the content of your blog should say the most about you and your value but the "About Me" page affords you a way to sell yourself so don't ignore it.

All in all, building a successful blog is based on balancing your content with the right kinds of traffic. If you have a lot of regular readers visiting your blog, you won't have to do a lot to find new sources of traffic. The readers and subscribers you've built up, because they like what you have to offer, will do that for you. So it is very important to focus on creating a quality blog and making sure that you do whatever you can to build a stick rate--after that everything else just falls into place.
